The short version: We use your email to send your free preview and your order updates. We only send offers if you ask for them, and you can unsubscribe anytime. We never sell your information. The details are below.

AOCTANT operates this website and online store, including our free map preview, our emails and our customer support (together, the "Services"). Our store is powered by Shopify.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information when you visit the Services, ask for a free map preview, make a purchase, subscribe to our emails or contact us. By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this policy.

1. Personal information we collect

"Personal information" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.

Free map preview

  • Email address
  • The place, look and size you choose
  • Whether you ticked the optional box to receive new looks and offers

Contact and order information

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number, if provided
  • Billing and shipping address
  • Products ordered, order history, cancellations and refunds
  • Payment confirmation and limited payment details from our payment providers

Full payment-card information is handled by Shopify's checkout and its payment providers. AOCTANT never sees or stores it.

Communications

  • Messages you send us, including damage claims and support requests

Device and usage information

  • IP address, browser and device type
  • Pages viewed and how you arrived at our site
  • Dates and times of visits
  • Cart and checkout activity
  • Interactions with our emails and ads

2. How we collect it

  • Directly from you: when you ask for a preview, place an order, subscribe or contact us.
  • Automatically: through cookies, pixels and similar technologies.
  • From service providers: that help us run the store, process payments, fulfil orders, send emails and measure our marketing.

3. How we use it

Your preview and your order

  • Make and email your free map preview, with a private link to buy it
  • Let you know if a place can't be found or needs more time
  • Process payments, make and ship your order, and send tracking details
  • Handle cancellations, replacements and refunds
  • Answer your questions

Reminders about your preview While your map is saved, we may send up to two short reminders. They stop as soon as you order or unsubscribe.

Marketing

  • Send new looks and offers, only if you ticked the optional box. It's never required for a preview or a purchase.
  • Measure our advertising and show ads that may interest you, where permitted.

Security

  • Prevent fraud, spam and misuse of the free preview, including limiting how many previews can be requested

Legal and business needs

  • Keep tax and accounting records, comply with the law and protect our rights

4. Cookies and similar technologies We use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, protect the store, understand traffic and measure our marketing.

Some are necessary for the site to work. Others, such as analytics and advertising cookies, may be optional depending on where you live. Where required, we ask for your consent first. You can manage your choices through our cookie banner or your browser settings.

5. Emails

  • Preview and order emails are sent because you asked for them.
  • Reminders about a saved preview can be stopped with the unsubscribe link in any reminder.
  • Offers and new looks are only sent if you opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any of these emails.

We process unsubscribe requests promptly, and always within 10 business days. Unsubscribing from marketing doesn't stop necessary emails about an order.

6. How we share personal information We don't sell your personal information for money. We share it only as needed to provide the Services:

  • Shopify, which hosts our store and checkout
  • Service providers that help with payment processing, production and fulfilment, shipping, email delivery, hosting and backups, place search, analytics and customer support
  • Advertising partners, such as Meta, where enabled, to measure and show our ads
  • Legal reasons: when required by law, or to prevent fraud or protect our rights
  • Business transfers: if our business is sold or reorganized

Depending on where you live, some advertising-related sharing may be legally considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, even though no money changes hands. You can opt out through the "Your privacy choices" link or cookie controls on our site, a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, or by contacting us.

7. Shopify Information you submit through the Services is sent to Shopify and may be processed by Shopify in other countries. You can learn more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and the Shopify Privacy Portal.

8. How long we keep it

  • Previews you don't order: we delete your email address and map files about 30 days after your request.
  • Orders: we keep your print file for 45 days after payment, so we can replace a damaged mat. Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Unsubscribes: we keep a record of your choice so we can keep respecting it.

When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. Copies may remain in backups for a short time until they are replaced.

9. Security We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

10. Your privacy rights Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you
  • correct it
  • ask us to delete it
  • withdraw your consent
  • opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of your information
  • file a complaint with a privacy authority

To make a request, email support@aoctant.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we'll reply within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

11. International transfers Our service providers may store or process personal information outside the country where you live. Those countries may have different privacy laws.

12. Children The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

13. Complaints If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You may also contact your local privacy authority, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

14. Changes to this policy We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above and give additional notice where required.
